NDOKWA IN DARKNESS: 16 YEARS OF NEGLECT, BETRAYAL AND INJUSTICE
Ndokwa Nation has suffered 16 years of complete darkness, despite hosting one of the largest Independent Power Plants in West Africa — the Okpai IPP. This is not just ironic; it is a clear case of systemic neglect and betrayal.
Just a few days ago, Ndokwa youths took to the streets in a peaceful protest demanding electricity, and calling on the government to honor the agreement made between our people and former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Instead of support, what did we receive?
???? Tear gas, gunshots, and intimidation.
???? Innocent youths were arrested.
???? Families were forced to pay ₦300,000 for bail.
Meanwhile, the Delta State Government, rather than standing by the people, is now pushing a narrative that connecting Ndokwa to the IPP may endanger some people’s business interests. Why should private gain come at the expense of the suffering of an entire people?
Even when Senator Ned Nwoko tried to bring investors to revive the IPP, his efforts were frustrated. Why? Because there are powerful interests trading with the darkness of Ndokwa people. They see light for our land as a threat to their profits.
Now, they want to connect Ndokwa back to PHCN, the same failed structure we’ve been abandoned under for 16 years. Why now? Why after all this pain? Why when even faraway states and cities — even Abuja — enjoy the power generated from our soil?
So we ask:
What happened in the last 16 years?
Why is it impossible to step down power for the very people who host the plant?
Are Ndokwa political office holders truly for the people or against them?
We are not asking for charity. We are demanding justice, equity, and accountability.
We are demanding electricity – a basic need and our legitimate right as host communities.
We say:
???? Enough is enough.
⚡ Electrify Ndokwa now.
???? Stop sacrificing our future for political and economic interests.
Ndokwa deserves better. Nigeria owes us more.
