AN OPEN LETTER TO THE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT ON THE UNPROVOKED ATTACK AND KILLING OF FOUR AZAGBA YOUTHS BY IYEDE PEOPLE

Your Excellency,
Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori,
The Honourable Governor of Delta State,
Respected Government Officials,
The Good People of Delta State,
I stand before you today as a grieving leader, a voice for the voiceless, and a representative of the Azagba community — a people whose hearts are heavy with sorrow, pain, and outrage. We are here to demand justice for the unprovoked and barbaric attack on our beloved Azagba youths by the people of Iyede.
Four promising young men—sons of our land, the future of our community—have been brutally murdered in cold blood. Their only crime? Being members of the Azagba community. This senseless act of violence is not just an attack on our people but an assault on the peace and unity we strive to uphold in Delta State.
We are a peace-loving people. We have always believed in dialogue, in unity, and in the principles of coexistence. But our patience must not be mistaken for weakness. Our silence in the face of previous provocations must not be taken as submission. The blood of our slain sons (three of whom are of the same parents) cries out for justice!
We are here today with a clear and firm demand:
1. The immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this heinous crime. No one is above the law. Those responsible for this bloodshed must face the full wrath of justice.
2. A thorough investigation into the root causes of this attack to ensure that such barbarism never repeats itself.
3. Stronger security measures to protect the people of Azagba from further aggression. We refuse to live in fear in our own ancestral land.
4. Compensation to the families of the deceased who have been robbed of their sons, brothers, and future breadwinners.
Your Excellency, we believe in your leadership and your commitment to peace and justice. We urge you to act swiftly, not only to bring solace to the bereaved families but to serve as a deterrent to those who think they can spill innocent blood without consequences.
Let it be known today that Azagba will not stand by and watch as its people are slaughtered like animals. We demand action, and we demand it NOW! Justice delayed is justice denied!
May peace reign in Delta State, but let it be a peace founded on fairness, accountability, and the protection of all citizens.
Justice for Azagba! Justice for our fallen youths!
Thank you.
