STEP DOWN IPP NDOKWA NATION MOVEMENT STAGES PEACEFUL PROTEST AT THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
8th October 2025

The Step Down IPP Ndokwa Nation Movement today staged a peaceful protest at the National Assembly complex to express deep dissatisfaction over the Federal Government’s continued neglect and failure to step down the Independent Power Project (IPP) located in Ndokwa Nation, Delta State.
The protesters lamented that despite Ndokwa hosting the IPP facility which supplies electricity to Aso Rock Presidential Villa and more than eight states across the federation, the host communities remain in darkness, deprived of direct access to the power generated within their own land.
Speaking on behalf of the convener, Comrade Henry Franklyn, who was unavoidably absent, Dr. Francis Mbabie led the delegation and presented the group’s position to lawmakers, emphasizing the urgent need for fairness and infrastructural justice for Ndokwa Nation.
Addressing the delegation, the Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, commended the group for maintaining peace and order in expressing their grievances. He assured them of his continued commitment to ensuring that the project benefits the host communities as originally intended.
Senator Nwoko disclosed that he has held extensive discussions with key stakeholders, including the Minister of Power, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), and has also engaged directly with the President and the Governor of Delta State to advocate for the immediate step-down of the IPP in Ndokwa Nation.
The lawmaker further emphasized his unwavering pursuit of the creation of Anioma State, noting that such a development would guarantee better representation for the Ndokwa people, who would then have their own Senator and House of Representatives members in the National Assembly.
He assured the group that meaningful progress is being made and encouraged them to remain patient and optimistic as discussions continue with relevant authorities.
The peaceful protest ended on a positive note, with renewed hope that the concerns of Ndokwa Nation will soon receive the urgent attention they deserve.
