PRESS STATEMENT: DELTA NORTH APC COALITION FOR EQUITY

The Delta North APC Coalition for Equity, comprising representatives from the nine (9) Local Government Areas of the Delta North Senatorial District, convened an expanded strategic meeting on Sunday, 16th November 2025, in Abuja, to review the increasingly concerning developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.

At the meeting, far-reaching resolutions were adopted in response to growing grievances among long-standing and foundational APC members who feel sidelined and marginalized following the defection of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and the subsequent dominance of his former political structure in the affairs of the party.

The Coalition expressed deep concern that key appointments and critical decision-making processes have become concentrated almost exclusively within the Governor’s structure, thereby relegating loyal stakeholders who have laboured, sacrificed, and sustained the APC across Delta State long before the recent wave of defections.

Members described the Abuja meeting as historic, decisive, and strategically essential, emphasising that Governor Oborevwori met an already established and functional APC structure in Delta State. The Coalition therefore maintains that political fairness, proper integration, and strategic alignment between the old and new blocs are not optional—they are fundamental prerequisites as the 2027 elections approach.

The Coalition underscored that its position is neither antagonistic nor confrontational, but rather a diplomatic, principled, and unwavering call for equity, justice, balance, and full inclusion within the party. While acknowledging the Governor’s commendable achievements in infrastructural development under the MORE Agenda, the Coalition urged him to demonstrate the same passion and commitment toward integrating long-standing APC members into governance to consolidate party unity and strengthen overall cohesion.

Furthermore, the Coalition called for the consideration and adoption of the 40/60% power-sharing formula currently being implemented in states such as Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa, where similar defections have recently occurred. The Coalition noted that this model would re-energise the grassroots, rebuild confidence, reactivate loyalty, and position the APC for a sweeping victory in the 2027 elections.

Grassroots stakeholders across Delta State have voiced serious dissatisfaction, observing that recent government appointments still reflect the old PDP configuration—an approach that directly contradicts President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive on total integration across all APC-controlled states.

During its extensive deliberations, the Coalition questioned the repeated assertion that “there is no old or new APC,” pointing out that no meaningful steps have been taken to unify the party. This inaction has left foundational members frustrated and increasingly alienated. The Coalition also condemned the reluctance of some party leaders to speak out—driven largely by personal benefits derived from the current arrangement.

The Coalition calls on Governor Oborevwori to demonstrate genuine leadership, loyalty, and commitment to the APC by urgently ensuring balanced appointments, proper integration, and a comprehensive restructuring of the state cabinet anchored on fairness and inclusivity.

As Delta State moves toward the 2027 general elections, the Coalition insists that it is imperative for the Governor to dissolve and reconstitute his cabinet to reflect a united APC family. The current arrangement undermines party cohesion, threatens electoral prospects, and runs contrary to the spirit of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the MORE Agenda.

The Coalition for Equity hereby calls on:

 • President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,

 • The National Chairman of the APC, and

 • All relevant party authorities,

to intervene decisively and ensure a fair, sustainable, and transparent integration process in Delta State.

The movement for equity is expanding across Delta North and Delta State at large, and the voices demanding fairness can no longer be ignored.

The Delta North APC Coalition for Equity reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the progress and victory of the APC in Delta State and across Nigeria. However, fairness, justice, inclusion, and respect for long-standing party loyalists must remain the foundation for unity and success.

Barr. Alex Ikpeazu
