SETTING THE RECORD STRAIGHT ON ANIOMA STATE AND SENATOR NED NWOKO'S LEGISLATIVE EFFORTS.

The recent article by C.C. Uwakina is riddled with misrepresentations and a clear attempt to undermine the genuine efforts of Senator Ned Nwoko in advocating for the creation of Anioma State. While state creation is indeed a constitutional process requiring extensive legislative backing, dismissing Nwoko’s efforts as mere political deception is both unfair and misleading. Let’s address the key fallacies in Uwakina’s argument.

1. STATE CREATION: A Legislative Process, Not a One-Man Job

Uwakina correctly outlines the constitutional procedure for state creation but fails to acknowledge the role of lawmakers in initiating and driving such efforts. No senator can single-handedly create a state, but neither can any state be created without lawmakers championing the cause. Every successful legislative motion begins with sponsorship and lobbying—exactly what Senator Nwoko is doing.

Historically, the creation of new states has always been initiated through legislative bills, debates, and advocacy. Senator Nwoko’s sponsorship of a bill is a legitimate first step, not a deceptive gimmick. If he had not taken this step, detractors like Uwakina would accuse him of inaction.

Additionally, the argument that President Bola Tinubu has not initiated discussions on state creation does not mean the process should be abandoned. The legislative arm functions independently of the executive, and it is the duty of senators to push for their constituents’ interests, regardless of the President’s position at any given time.

2. CONSULTATION AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

Uwakina falsely claims that Senator Nwoko has not engaged stakeholders in his push for Anioma State. However, available records show that Nwoko has actively consulted with traditional rulers, political leaders, and local stakeholders across Delta North. His advocacy is not a personal agenda but a reflection of the long-standing aspiration of the Anioma people, who have been demanding state recognition for decades.

Furthermore, the map Uwakina refers to is not "of Nwoko’s own making" but a draft representation of the Anioma region based on historical and geographical considerations. Stakeholder consultations are an ongoing process, and it is premature to claim that Nwoko has disregarded the people’s input.

3. POLITICAL ROTATION: A MISLEADING ARGUMENT

Uwakina’s argument about political fairness and zoning within Delta North is a distraction from the real issue. The creation of Anioma State is not about Senator Nwoko’s re-election—it is about correcting a historical imbalance and securing recognition for a people with a distinct cultural and historical identity.

Moreover, the claim that Ika Federal Constituency has been politically shortchanged is a selective interpretation of the facts. Representation in the Senate should be based on merit, vision, and the ability to deliver, not merely a rotational formula. Nwoko’s effectiveness should be judged by his performance, not an arbitrary turn-taking arrangement.

4. PARTY DEFECTION: A STRATEGIC MOVE, NOT DESPERATION

Uwakina attempts to paint Senator Nwoko’s defection to the APC as an act of desperation. However, political realignments are a common feature in Nigerian politics, often driven by strategic interests rather than desperation. If Nwoko’s move is opportunistic, what about other seasoned politicians who have switched parties for ideological or strategic reasons?

The reality is that political parties are vehicles for governance, and leaders must position themselves where they can best serve their people. If the APC provides a more viable platform to push for Anioma State, why should Nwoko be condemned for making a decision in the best interest of his constituents?

5. DELIVERING TANGIBLE RESULTS, NOT EMPTY PROMISES

Instead of dismissing Senator Nwoko’s efforts as "empty promises," Uwakina should acknowledge the work he has done in office. Nwoko has been active in sponsoring bills, advocating for infrastructural development, and pushing for youth empowerment in Delta North. His track record speaks for itself, and it is unfair to reduce his contributions to mere political maneuvering.

CONCLUSION: A CALL FOR CONSTRUCTIVE ENGAGEMENT, NOT BASELESS ATTACKS

The creation of Anioma State is a legitimate aspiration of the Anioma people, and Senator Ned Nwoko is fulfilling his duty by advancing their cause. While state creation is a complex process, it must start somewhere—and that start is in the legislative chambers. Instead of dismissing Nwoko’s efforts, critics should engage constructively and contribute to the conversation in a manner that benefits Delta North as a whole.

Anioma State is not about personal ambition; it is about the collective progress of the people. The path may be challenging, but with the right advocacy and unity, it remains an achievable goal. Let us focus on solutions rather than politically motivated attacks.
