A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY: THE FAILURE OF SUV FESTUS OCHONOGOR AS MD OF DESOPADEC – A POSITION WASTED FOR THE NDOKWA PEOPLE
25 August 2025

Following the recent publication by #NdokwaProject2027, we, the Concerned Ndokwa Youths in Nigeria, stand firmly in alignment with the call for Mr. Suv Festus Ochonogor, the current Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), to resign from office immediately.
It is disheartening and regrettable that since his assumption of office, Mr. Ochonogor has failed to deliver meaningful developmental projects to Ndokwa land, a key oil-producing area in Delta State. His tenure has not only been marked by gross underperformance, but also by a wasted opportunity for the Ndokwa people to benefit from the mandate of DESOPADEC.
OUR POSITION: A NEED FOR A CHANGE IN LEADERSHIP
The Concerned Ndokwa Youths in Nigeria unequivocally state that it is time for a change of leadership. We are calling on the Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, to take immediate steps to replace Mr. Ochonogor with a more competent, visionary, and development-oriented Ndokwa son or daughter to complete the remainder of the tenure.
WHY SUV FESTUS OCHONOGOR MUST GO
The role of Managing Director of DESOPADEC is not ceremonial. It is a strategic position meant to channel resources and development into oil-producing communities. Sadly, under Mr. Ochonogor’s leadership, the Ndokwa nation has been left behind. We outline the following reasons for our position:
1. LACK OF POLITICAL WILL AND LEADERSHIP CAPACITY
Mr. Ochonogor has demonstrated a clear inability to lead. His tenure lacks the drive, vision, and political will necessary to champion the cause of the Ndokwa people within DESOPADEC.
2. FAILURE TO EXECUTE DEVELOPMENTAL PROJECTS
Despite the availability of funds and mandates, there has been no visible or impactful project initiated by his administration across Ndokwa land. Infrastructure is decaying, while other regions enjoy the dividends of the DESOPADEC initiative.
3. NO ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT OR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The youth remain unemployed and neglected, with no strategic efforts made by Mr. Ochonogor to create sustainable employment opportunities for Ndokwa youths.
4. ZERO INVESTMENT IN HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT
There have been no meaningful training programs, scholarships, or capacity-building initiatives introduced for the benefit of young Ndokwa indigenes. Education and skill acquisition – which should be a priority – have been ignored.
5. POLICY EXCUSES ARE UNACCEPTABLE
The office of the Non-Executive Chairman or other non-executive roles within DESOPADEC cannot be used as an excuse for the MD's inaction. As the chief executive officer of the commission, the MD is expected to drive execution, not shift blame.
OUR APPEAL TO THE GOVERNOR
We are appealing directly to His Excellency, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves. The Ndokwa nation must not continue to suffer due to the incompetence of one individual. There are many capable, qualified, and passionate sons and daughters of Ndokwa land who can step into this role and restore dignity, progress, and development to our people.
CONCLUSION
This is not a political witch-hunt; it is a righteous call for justice, accountability, and results. Ndokwa land deserves better. DESOPADEC was created to serve the interests of oil-producing communities, and we demand that it does just that. Let us not continue to allow wasted years and squandered opportunities to define our future.
Suv Festus Ochonogor has failed, and as such he must step aside.
Signed,
Engr. Jerry Ogwu.
