APC UKWUANI: A PARTY IN CRISIS
Time for new Leadership, new directions 17th August 2025

I didn't want to comment on the issues plaguing the APC in Ukwuani Local Government Area, but the crisis is getting worse every day. The recent influx of new members into the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ukwuani Local Government has sparked a power struggle within the party, particularly in Obiaruku and Umutu.
While some members want pragmatic leaders who can attract development to the area, others prefer the old guard. Moreover, the looming 2027 elections have also fueled the crisis, as some politicians are positioning themselves for a second term, while others are pushing to block incumbents from seeking re-election. This jostling for power has further divided the party. The party has mechanisms to address internal issues, but I'm surprised it's been allowed to linger for selfish gains. I attribute the party's problems to the fragile LGA party chairman, who instead of creating an atmosphere to integrate new members, has chosen to align with a particular tendency.
I'm disappointed that the APC executives at both LGA and ward levels have allowed themselves to be used by these new forces vying for power. Their weakness and susceptibility to manipulation have compromised the party's integrity. This is not a new phenomenon; it has been a recurring issue that has contributed to the party's electoral losses.
During elections, these same executives often compromise their values and sell out to opposing parties. Instead of administering the party's affairs in a way that accommodates all interests and promotes peace, the executives are prioritizing personal gain. If competent and credible individuals were elected or selected to represent the party, these issues would not arise. Many party administrators are jobless and lack integrity, making them vulnerable to bribery.
The arbitrary suspensions each camp or tendency is issuing to perceived rivals serve the interests of their benefactors, further eroding the party's credibility. In the next congress, it's crucial that the party leadership be vigilant in electing leaders who will prioritize the party's interests over personal gain – leaders who have a legitimate means of livelihood. The party's future depends on it.
